Manna

Manna as a Provision for the Wilderness

Manna for 40 years non stop

‘And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year. ‘

Joshua 5:12

What incredible provisions from the Lord. He gave them manna to eat for 40 years. This lasted up until the very day they were able to eat the produce of the land of Canaan! He not only took care of their food but also fought their battles. What an incredible God we have! He is not only able and willing to take care of our spiritual needs but also of our physical ones.

Jesus feeds the multitudes

This reminds me of how Jesus showed compassion towards the crowd that followed Him. On two different occasions, He fed them; a crowd of 4000 men, and another one of 5000 men. On both occasions, these numbers excluded women and children.

Jesus is the bread of life

‘Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” ‘

John 6:31-33

The Jews followed Jesus after he fed them. Jesus knew that and called them out on it. The Jews then mentioned how Moses gave them the manna in the wilderness. Jesus then explained to them that the Father now gives the true bread from heaven and that is Jesus Himself.

‘Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” ‘

John 6:35-40

The Lord Jesus finally made it clear that whoever believes in Him shall never thirst. He further adds that He can lose no one that truly puts his/her trust in Him. Finally, he added that everyone who looks on the Son and believes Him will have eternal life!

Do you believe this today? Will you put your trust in Jesus and be saved?
